I. PROPOSED CURRICULUM CHANGES

The psychology faculty have been working on a major curriculum revision. Possibilities include breaking up the Lifespan course into three separate courses for the majors:

  • Child and Adolescent Psychology

  • Real Men / Real Women: Issues in Adult Psychology

  • Midlife and Beyond

In addition, adding the following courses:

  • Industrial and Organizational Psychology (New course offering)

  • Human Sexuality  (Alternating psych 489 course)

  • Psychology of Gender and Identity  (Alternating psych 489 course)

  • Psychology of Woman (New course offering)

  • Psychology of Language (New course offering)

  • Death and Dying  (Alternating psych 489 course)

  • Altered States of Consciousness  (Alternating psych 489 course)

  • Introduction to Social Work   (New course offering)

  • Sport Psychology (New Course Offering)

Furthermore, adding the following interdisciplinary courses (May be taught by any of the Humanities faculty):

  • Statistics for the Social Sciences  (New course offering)

  • Writing for the Social Sciences  (New course offering)

Other changes being considered are:

  • Dropping Social Psychology to a 300-level course

  • Changing Learning Theories to a course on Learning and Memory

  • Changing the Memory and Cognition course to a 400-level course called, " Issues in Cognitive Science."

Note: Curriculum Changes are subject to (1) The new hire of a tenure - track professor beginning in the academic year 2007 - 2008.  He or she will have equal input on the proposed changes, and will be encouraged to suggest 300 and 400 level courses in his or her area of expertise.  (2) A second new hire in 2009.

On the positive side, the curriculum change process is already in the works and changes will be phased in starting in the 2008 academic year.

Any comments?  We would appreciate any feedback or concerns you might have.
