Internship Opportunities.   This program is directed through our Career Center and gives students to gain experience at a work site under the direction of an on site supervisor and faculty sponsor.  Students in good academic standing are allowed to participate at one of two levels.  Students are expected to spend 40 hours on site for each hour of credit.   Approximately one-third of the students in the sciences take advantage of the internship program.  Student may choose from a large number of previously approved sites or the Career Center will also cooperate to allow students to select a site of their own choosing.

Exploratory Internships are generally taken during the first five semesters and permit students to learn more about a particular career, especially if they are unsure of what they want to do.  These internships are designated with an appropriate department and numbered 276.  Students may take an exploratory internship for one to three hours of credit and the grading is pass/fail.

Professional internships are taken after the first semester of the junior year and are intended for those who want to begin gaining job experience in a chosen career.  These internships are designated with an appropriate department and numbered 476.  Students may take a professional internship for one to six hours of credit and receive a letter grade of A, B, C, D, or F.

Recent internships have, with a few exceptions, been within 50 miles of the college.
