Welcome To The Information Section
Article 2: Membership
Section 1:
Any male student enrolled in at least twelve credit hours per semester and in good standing with The College and its current policies, may become a member of this Chapter at a meeting thereof unless otherwise provided in these By-Laws or in The Constitution and the By-Laws of the International Fraternity.

Section 2:
A male person who has proven himself a professional leader and has provided or may provide valuable contributions to the chapter, can be elected to membership, and may be initiated into the fraternity. This member shall obtain full responsibilities of an Alumni member, according to provisions stated in Article II, Section 3 of the International Constitution.

Section 3:
The procedure for bidding and pledging shall be as follows:

Paragraph 1:
Any eligible man may be given an invitation, called a 'bid', to join The Chapter, provided he receives support of four-fifths of the eligible voting members present at a regular meeting or at an announced bidding session of the Chapter at which a quorum is present.

Paragraph 2:
If a man desires to join the Chapter after receiving his bid, he shall become a pledge of the Chapter. A Pledge is equivalent to an "Associate Member" which is defined in Article II, Section 4 of the International Constitution. Pledge-ship shall be a period of education in fraternity affairs for the pledge.

Paragraph 3:
Meetings of the brotherhood to determine the status of pledges of the Chapter, hereinafter called "brothers-only meetings", may be called by the pledge educator or president, at their discretion, at any time throughout the course of the pledge program, with a minimum of at least three. Each pledge shall be voted upon by the Brotherhood at every brothers-only meeting held at least one month after his date of pledging, and shall be said to hold the status of "approved" if and only if he has passed the vote of the Brotherhood at the most recent brothers-only meeting. A vote of one-eighth of the brotherhood, or three brothers, whichever is greater, is sufficient to prevent a pledge from receiving approved status.

Paragraph 4:
If a pledge fails to receive approved status following the vote of the Brotherhood, another vote shall be taken immediately to determine if that pledge will be asked to remain a pledge. If one-fourth of the Brotherhood, vote against that pledge remaining a pledge, that pledge must immediately and permanently sever his connection with the chapter.

Paragraph 5:
A pledge may initiate if and only if it has been certified by the pledge educator that he has completed the pledge program, and has had a previous semester grade point average of 2.250 or better, and he has had an approved status, and has maintained this status, for at least one month preceding the proposed initiation date.

Paragraph 6:
It shall be the obligation and responsibility of each member to ever uphold, preserve, and advance the principles, purposes, and policies of the Chapter and of the International Fraternity. It shall be the obligation and responsibility of every member to refrain, and to restrain others, from any action taken or situation created, which are intended to produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment, or ridicule, whether on or off fraternity premises.

Section 5:
In order for a member of another chapter of Delta Upsilon to affiliate with the Chapter, he must be voted upon by the Brotherhood and must receive the same vote as is required for initiation of a pledge or immediately sever relations with the Chapter.

Section 6:
In order for an active member to maintain a good standing within the fraternity, a cumulative grade point average of 2.300 and a semester grade point average of 2.000 must be upheld. If this requirement is not upheld, the member may be placed on an academic probationary period, at which time he has until the end of this period to return to good standing or face further action of suspension and possibly leading to expulsion. Provisions for probation and suspension as stated in Article 7, Section 6.

Section 7:
A person can remain a pledge as long as a vote of four-fifths of the brotherhood ask the pledge to remain a pledge. If, at the completion of the pledge program, the pledge does not meet the requirements for initiation and the chapter elects not to ask the pledge to remain a pledge, he must sever all connections with the fraternity.

Section 8:
The Brotherhood may grant voting privileges to its pledges by three-quarters majority vote at a regular meeting of the Chapter.

Section 9:
A pledge cannot wear the fraternity crest, or hold an official ceremony on their behalf, such as a liering, until the completion of the pledge program upon initiation.
